From the deepest, most inner-workings of your pounding heart, you want to help. You want to make a difference in the world. That feeling of accomplishment for the greater good, it's an oh-so-good feeling that you chase. You do it for more than just the self indulgence of a so called 'selfless act' (remember that Friends episode where Phoebe let a bee sting her to look tough to all his bee friends?). Sometimes things are wrong. Plainly, wrong. Someone has to do something and here you are.. You must. It can be a daunting feeling.
Though, no matter how good of a person you try to be, one single person may pick you a part into utter worthlessness. Your beliefs, opinions, morals, ethics, lifestyle are all boldly different than theirs. You are different than them.
In a peaceful world we would all accept each other's differences. Unfortunately, our species hasn't progressed to that point (see definition: 'war').
It hurts.
While hurting over the same silly issue yet again, a light bulb finally goes off. You shouldn't take their rejection personally.. [crickets] ..Wait, that's an option? It's true! Sometimes you have to realize it's just not about you. It's about them and the emotional profit they receive from playing the martyr. Like, "If you don't do what I want then I'm going to go sit in a corner and eat worms." Well what I'm saying is, let them scoop themselves up a big fat, squishy helping. Because you shouldn't put you on hold to seek anyone's approval.
Maybe one day they will see that they don't have to like everything about you in order to love you. I hope that day comes for all of us.
Exploring for treasure.
Antiquing.
